Looking In

Look
at me and see the girl who lives inside her lonely world
You believe that's all there is to see
because you don't know the real me.

I smile through a thousand tears, harboring all my adolescent fears
And dream of all I wish to be
while wading in insecurity.
I hide myself inside of me.

Well don't think I take it all for granted
I'm aware of all I have!
Look at me!
I pray and hope, doing all I can.
But it seems as though I've always been
the one outside, who's looking in.

So here I am for fear to bleed
surrendering me to my knees
But my spirit is mine! It will always be!
Nothing can take that away from me!

So look at me and see the girl who lives inside her lonely world
And don't believe that's all there is to see.
Because you don't know the real me.
